Math Skills
How to find the mean:
The mean is the usual average, (You basically add up every number and divide the sum by the amount of numbers) so here's an example:
(13 + 18 + 13 + 14 + 13 + 16 + 14 + 21 + 13) ÷ 9 = 15 The mean is 15. |
How to find the median:
The median is the middle value, so I'll have to rewrite the list in order:
13, 13, 13, 13, 14, 14, 16, 18, 21 The median is 14. |
How to find the mode:
The mode is the number repeated most often. This list has two values that are repeated three times:
[13] [13] [13] [13] 14, 14, 16, 18, 21 The mode is 13. |
How to Understand the Metric System
The metric system works on multiples of 10 applied to the basic measurement. The basic measurements are the gram for weight or mass, the meter for length and the liter for volume or capacity.
|
The basic metric measurements have prefixes that change the unit size by a factor of 10. Going smaller, deci is 1/10, centi is 1/100 and milli is 1/100. For example, the commonly used centimeter is 1/100th of a meter.
|
Going larger, deka is 10 times, hecto is 100 times and a kilo is 1,000 times. Kilo is used most often as in kilometer and kilogram.
